Lavender Oil for Skin Care

Youthful skin is what most women fantasize about. There are a ton of skincare products that claim to reverse or slow down the ageing process and give our skin that elasticity that we seek. However, women with oily skin struggle with achieving clear skin more than others. Lots of products automatically go out of bounds for oily and acne-prone skin; carrier oils, oil or silicone based foundations or creams and moisturizers having an oil base.

Enter, Lavender Oil. With its aromatic, soothing, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and healing properties, Lavender oil has proven to be one of the most versatile and effective essential oils in natural cosmetics, which would help in achieving elastic, youthful, spot free skin. Being fit for all skin types, even oily and acne-prone skin gives it an advantage over other oils.

Acne

Prepare a tonic by combining 4oz of distilled water with 30 drops of Lavender Oil.

You can store this concoction in a spray bottle and keep it in the fridge if you like. Oils and water do not mix so give it a little shake every time before spraying it to your face. Replace this with your facial toner and spritz over entire face in the morning and before bed after routine skin care.

To use Lavender Oil as a facial moisturizer, mix 30 drops of Lavender Oil with a moisturizing gel (free from artificial ingredients or fragrances because Lavender Oil has its own).

Facial steam

Heat 2 litres of water and place in a large container or use a facial steamer. Place your face over the steam rising from the container and place a towel over your head to form a tent to capture the steam. Relax and enjoy the steam for 5 to 10 minutes.

Facial steam allows the pores to open for you to clean them, either manually, with machines or cosmetic products. Adding Lavender Oil to your facial steam water would penetrate the skin and give you the best results.

Dry Skin

Melt cocoa butter and add 3 drops of Lavender Oil. Use this mixture as moisturizer for dry skin, after routine skincare before bed.

Wrinkles

Reduce the visibility and further prevent wrinkles, remove dead cells and stimulate blood circulation by using a gentle scrub once a week: Combine 1 tbsp. of powdered oatmeal with 1 tsp. of honey and 1 tsp. of Aloe Vera or jojoba. Add 7 drops of Lavender Oil. Mix well and apply to the skin of the face with gentle circular movements.

Moisturize your skin using rosehip oil. To a 1oz bottle of Rosehip’s oil, add 10 drops Lavender Oil and use it as your daily moisturizer.

Burns

Apply undiluted Lavender Oil on the burned area after soaking the burn under cold water for 5 minutes. Continue doing this for 3 days.

Sunburns

Combine 1 tbsp. of Aloe Vera gel with 5 drops of Lavender Oil and apply this refreshing mixture on the affected area to heal sunburn.

Eczema / Dermatitis

In a bathtub filled with warm water, place preparation of 1 tbsp. of oatmeal, 1 cup of plain yoghurt made with whole milk, 1 tbsp. of avocado oil and 10 drops of Lavender Oil which is mixed well until the essential oil has completely dissolved. Take a bath for about 15 minutes. Do it at least twice a week.

Hair Care

Lavender Oil is an excellent remedy for dry hair, hair loss, oily hair and itchy scalp. Choose a neutral PH shampoo and add 30 drops of Lavender Oil per 4oz of shampoo.

For hair loss and scalp treatment, combine 1 tbsp. of warm coconut oil with 5 drops of Lavender Oil. Massage the scalp and cover with plastic and a towel. Allow the oil to sit in for 30 minutes. Use your Lavender Oil shampoo to remove the oil.
